Curacao Wildlife is
a true volunteer nonprofit
foundation, which means that not one cent of the money from
donations, fundraisings, and/or institutional grants at this
foundation is spent on salaries, everyone, even the board of
directors are donating their time, and expertise as volunteers.
This fact is written in our Statutes. A copy of our Statutes can
be obtained at the Curacao Chamber of Commerce, where we are
registered.
Funding
However to pay for operations, medicine, bandages, and food, we are
supported via
wildlife funds, donations, fundraisings, and/or
grants by caring individuals and local
businesses that care about the animals that surround them at
home, at work, and in the natural habitats.
Construction of rehabilitation center
Curacao Wildlife needs your support also to build a wild animal
rehabilitation center. At this center the orphaned wild animals
are trained to "forget" their human foster parents who fed and
took care of them. They are also trained to locate their own
food and are also trained to figure out what food they are
supposed to look for in the wild habitats of Curacao. This
center is totally constructed out of wood and has two levels.
Bottom level
The bottom level contains the "brain": a 40 foot container which
is divided in two parts. The back part contains 2 computers and
a streaming video server, which are used to monitor the progress
of the animals in training via wireless webcams. The live
streaming video can be accessed by schools, scientists, our
volunteers and anyone else via this website. The front part of
the container contains the food & medical supplies and the
"office". On each side of the container are two big areas which
are surrounded by chickenwire fence. One side is reserved for
large adult wild animals (not orphans) who are recuperating from
an injury. The other side is reserved for the orphaned animals
and a "kitchen" to prepare their daily nutritional requirements.
Top level
The top level of the center contains a walkway ("floor")
constructed out of recycled wood on each side of the container
ceiling. On one side the walkway is surrounding a large "cage"
which is used to train orphaned mediumsized to large sized birds
to become wild again and contains one digital camera for
monitoring. On the other side the walkway is surrounding 2
"cages". One cage is used to train orphaned seed/insect eating
birds to become wild again. The second cage contains
nectar/fruit eating birds. A wooden wall adorned with leaves
seperates the two cages. Each of these two cages contains one
digital camera for monitoring. These 3 cages are constructed in
such a way that the animals will never be able to see
humans...they will only see the birds in the sky above them
through the glass roof (to prevent rain and excretions of other
animals from entering), and earth in their cage on the bottom
which has grass, insects, flowering plants and other types of
plants.
